What a miracle it is
that we can outwit
the chains of gravity,
the weight of the earth
dragging at our heels,
a prisoner's ball and chain.
This is a hall of miracles,
of gnats defeating pterodactyls,
of winged and engined Davids
struggling forth from Goliath hands
and soaring free:
our ships so small
and the universe so wide.
